PHYSICAL: RARE - Moss agate is not technically an agate. It is chalcedony with dendritic inclusions. It is a quartz with a hardness of 7. Most moss agate comes from India.

HISTORICAL: ANCIENT - Moss agate has been used since ancient times, and was at one point called "mocha stone" rather than moss agate. The name came from the city of Mocha in Yemen, which was the main source for moss agate in the ancient world. It was also used by the ancient Romans to crush ingredients for lotions and ointments because the stone possessed "divine" powers.
